Michael Bloomberg bought New York City again yes­ter­day. New York City had just be­come ir­re­place­able to the bil­lion­aire turned faux politi­cian. Nev­er mind that he had open­ly crit­i­cized Rudy Giu­liani for want­ing to stay on an ex­tra three months. When you are deal­ing with an ego the size of Bloomberg’s, your mem­o­ry is se­lec­tive and short. What Mike Bloomberg did yes­ter­day was say that he alone was more im­por­tant than the peo­ple he claims to want to serve.

Poor Rep. Mike Castle never saw it coming and had nothing to say. The Delaware moderate Republican congressman fixed a Bambi-in-the-headlights gaze on his face when the flag-waving woman in red whipped an otherwise unremarkable town hall meeting into a display of mass insanity.

The shock that some lib­er­als dis­play in light of the Democrats’ com­plic­i­ty (or at least com­pli­ance) to the “harsh in­ter­ro­ga­tion tech­niques” is in it­self shock­ing. Are we to be­lieve Congress has nev­er tak­en the time to in­ves­ti­gate and dis­cov­er the acts in­side the in­ter­ro­ga­tion room?

In the 1980s there was a banking crisis in the US caused by fraud in the Savings & Loan industry. How does today’s crisis compare? Twice as big, five times as big, ten times as big? Try 100 times bigger.

How did it happen? The people at the top of the biggest financial institutions were total crooks. Not a theory. A reality.
