More and more lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans­gender, and queer people of African descent are marrying. While same-?sex marriage is not the most pressing issue in black communi­ties, these efforts are creating controversy.

Americans need real healthcare reform, not just insurance reform, and nobody should mistake the two. Real healthcare reform should offer coverage to the employed, the unemployed, the sick, the healthy, the young, the old. Everyone.

There is a saying that history repeats itself and without a doubt that is what is currently taking place in this country with the gay rights movement.

People who supported slavery, denied white women and people of color the right to vote, were all on the wrong side of history by denying people’s basic human and civil rights. And today, there are many who are still on the wrong side of history by denying gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans basic civil rights.

Where did this modern “conservative” movement start? Ronald Reagan. In the last presidential election it seemed all of he Republican Party candidates were bending over backwards to give the impression they were the most loyal disciples of Ronald Reagan. Then I remembered an audiotape I heard years ago by movie director Myron Fagan, called “Red Stars Over Hollywood,” in which Fagan repeatedly called Reagan “Ronnie the Red.”

Barack Obama is pro-union. Being pro-union means being pro-card check. And a card check system means it will be easier to organize employees into unions even if the workers impacted do not want it. The House passed the card-check bill last year by a 241-185 vote, but it was blocked in the Senate where Democrats fell nine votes short of the 60 votes needed to end a GOP filibuster. If the “if’s become reality, look for this to change.
